Jean Wong is a documentary cinematographer based in Kuala Lumpur with close to a decade of experience filming across the UK and Southeast Asia.

Over the years, he has worked on stories exploring marginalized communities, natural history, the world of sport and is equally comfortable in the wild outdoors as in civic arenas. His approach centers on finding the right balance between cinematic imagery and the needs of each story. Whether shooting vérité style or coordinating multi-camera setups, Jean is also no stranger to working solo, running sound, and shaping stylised lighting. His focus lies in individual-led narratives with an emphasis on sensitivity, collaboration, and authenticity.

Recent clients include CNA (Channel NewsAsia), EFTA (European Free Trade Association), AIA, CIMB, British Council, UEM Sunrise, Zurich Insurance, National Geographic CreativeWorks, Thai Tourism and various brands in F&B and sportswear.

He has a background in fine arts, and prior to a career in media he worked in art institutions and with cultural archives. Jean holds an MA in Fine Arts from UAL, Wimbledon School of Arts, and is also familiar with the cutting room editing branded content and as assistant editor on documentary projects.

Jean also founded Greenhouse Pictures, a local company based in Malaysia focused on corporate films and branded content.

A native English speaker, he also speaks some Mandarin and Malay.
